Malwina Kowalska is an artist, performer and director operating internationally in the fluid landscape of immersive arts and contemporary performance. Driven by an endless curiosity for sensor explorations, aesthetics, and interaction, her work dissolves the boundaries between space, artist, and spectator.
Since 2014, she has treated the human sensorium not just as a tool for perception, but as a gateway to altered states of consciousness and transformation. Central to Malwina’s practice is spatial transformation and community alchemy. She acts as a world-builder, converting physical venues (ranging from a 350 sqm complex in Berlin, filmsets, public spaces, to a raw bunker lab) into living, breathing sanctuaries for multidisciplinary art. Whether orchestrating large-scale international collectives of over 150 artists, creating single-take 35mm film sessions, or intimate small performances her focus remains on creating a 'home' for raw human emotion, connection, interaction and creation.
Her work navigates between the hypnotic digital landscapes and raw sensory elements like dance, theater, fire, music, and elixirs. By engaging all senses, she disrupts the modern state of mental fixation, transforming art into a deep, full-body experience.
For Malwina, art acts as a mirror reflecting both the individual psyche and contemporary society. Through her immersive work, she invites audiences to step out of their everyday roles and step into collective and personal experiences. They become aware of their own narratives, and rediscover themselves within a completely new context.
From the artist village Ecodorp Bergen (The Netherlands), the space where she lives and creates, she actively researches and embodies the themes of regenerating both social and natural environments.
She presents her work nationally and internationally, in outdoor and indoor locations alike -nature, villages, and cities, as well as museums, galleries, and art festivals.
Malwina holds a Research Master's in Art and Culture Studies from Utrecht University, a bachelor's in Film, Media and Theatre Studies from Utrecht University, and a degree in Theatre Dance from the theater academy Amsterdam.
